Maharashtra is the most preferred investment destination in the country due to its investor friendly ecosystem and robust infrastructure facilities. 97 percent of the villages are well connected with all weather roads in the in Maharashtra. The total length of the national highway is 4,367 km and state highway is 33,933 km.

The state encompasses 2 major railway zones the Central and Western and contributes to 9.2 % of total railway network in the country. The railway route length per 1,000 sq. km of geographical area is 19.42 km in the state as against 19.70 km in the country (as on 31st March, 2009). The total length of the railway network is 5,983 km.

The state is well connected to all the major cities in five continent and other Indian metropolitan cities. There are 23 airports in the state, out of which four are international airports.

The coastline of Maharashtra stretches to 720 km, which encompasses 2 major airports and 48 minor airports. Maharashtra handles 21% of the total cargo traffic of the major ports in India. Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Maharashtra is India's largest container port (61%).
