Indian textile industry is estimated to be at USD 51.4 billion. The industry accounts
for 4% of the country’s GDP and 14% of its industrial production. Maharashtra contributes
to about 10.4% to India’s textiles and apparels output. Maharashtra has the largest
area under cultivation for cotton (33.4%). The State has witnessed 122 major textile
projects with an investment of USD 224 Million. Largest number of the sector’s 100%
export oriented units, with a count of 560 are based in Maharashtra.
